Amid the Winter Snow

Anthology announcement and an Elemental Legacy teaser

Happy Saturday, everyone! I’m shooting off a quick blog post before my VERY BUSY WEEK this coming week. What’s on the agenda? Family reunion Grandmother’s memorial THE SILENT book release Getting TallBoy ready for Boy Scout camp More writing on the new book if at all possible I’m tired and the week hasn’t even started. blinkblink via GIPHY SO, let’s check a few things off, shall we? First off, I am very excited to announce that I’ll be joining a holiday anthology this year with three amazing authors (all of whose work I recommend) Thea Harrison, Grace Draven, and Jeffe Kennedy. The title of the anthology is… Up for debate. This is what happens when grammar nerds rumble, my friends. See, the original title was “Amid the Winter’s Snow” which is great, right? So we started with the cover, Grace and I collaborating, and I mocked up the copy for […]

The Silent Chapter One

The Silent – Chapter One

RELEASING JULY 27th Newsletter subscribers received a first look at chapter one a week ago. Are you a subscriber yet?      The Silent Chapter One Chiang Mai, Thailand Kyra stepped off the airplane, the loaded carry-on bag heavy on her shoulder. Sirius had told her what to expect, but she’d been wary to leave Europe without bringing most of her belongings. She didn’t own much, but what she’d kept over the years was precious to her. A lock of her mother’s hair and a book she’d found in her meager belongings. A picture of her and Kostas. Another picture Ava had sent her from Istanbul with all the scribes and singers there. A locket. None of these were things she was willing to risk to the vagaries of checked baggage. It was her first time out of Europe. Her first time on a long international flight. Her first time […]

Herbs, pink salts, and flower petals turned the bathroom into something far closer to one of the fancy spas that he’d seen in Chiang Mai. “This is wonderful.” Leo […]

Cover Reveal: THE SILENT Irin Chronicles Book Five

I’m so happy to reveal the cover for the new Irin Chronicles book, The Silent, which will be out July 28th! I love this cover. And I love this book! Here’s the synopsis: They are called kareshta, the silent ones. But the silent are waking. Kyra has lived her life in the shadow of a powerful Grigori brother. She’s ignored her own desires for the good of her family. But an unexpected request from Thailand sends her on a mission that could change her life and alter the fate of free Grigori all over the world. Sons of the Fallen hidden in the mountains of Thailand have adapted an ancient human magic for their own purposes. Will this practice bring peace or lead to even greater danger for the Irin race? A simple diplomatic mission sends Leo to Bangkok, but he didn’t expect to see a familiar face in surveillance […]

The looming asteroid has been called off. For now.

Wanted to post a quick update about what’s been going on in the last week. Most of you probably caught from my blatant and somewhat overwhelming self promotion… That The Staff and the Blade is now available for pre-order! Wait, you didn’t get that? Too much? But really, promotion makes me itch. It’s a necessary evil, but it’s not something I can ever see myself enjoying much. Mostly, this week, I’ve been writing. And boy! Has that felt nice. I mean, slightly mental… But nice. That’s my desk up there. ^^^Actually, that’s a picture of my dining room table because the madness outgrew the desk, so I had to move to the dining room table. (The toilet paper is because I ran out of Kleenex.) As you can see, planning and plotting this book has been complicated. Actually, my editor and I decided that this book is really more like a […]

A word about my book prices.

I’m feeling nervous prior to the cover reveal of The Staff and the Blade tomorrow. Not because of the cover. I love the cover. But because I am releasing my most expensive book ever. Now, to those of you who are accustomed to traditionally published books, $6.99 (USD) will probably not seem that high to you. That’s on the low end for a new release, as a matter fact. But for those in indie world like myself, that’s a pretty hefty price tag. via GIPHY When I started out publishing, the standard novel-length book price for self-publishers was $2.99. That was what I listed A Hidden Fire at. But lots of people said that 99 cents was the only way to sell books. Or just give it all away! You just want reviews and to get your name out, right?

Updates on the #IrinChronicles, join me on #Wattpad, and some exciting new reads

I’m happy to say that I’ve made a breakthrough with The Staff and the Blade, both on the writing side AND on the publishing side. I’ll have more news about that next week on the blog, but I can say that the book will be out mid-July or possibly sooner if things get back from the editors faster. I’m also going to be planning a cover release on Wednesday, April 27. If you are a blogger interested in joining me for the cover reveal (which will also have some other pretty great news) please fill out this form and put “Staff and Blade” in the cover request line. I’m also very excited about joining Wattpad! For those of you who don’t know what Wattpad is, its a free platform to read serial fiction and interact with readers and writers. Some of my favourites like April White and Penny Reid are […]

Writing notes #IrinChronicles: The Staff and the Blade

I was talking last week about how difficult it’s been to not only go back in time for the Irin Chronicles (because two of the four novellas in The Staff and the Blade happen in the past) and then to overlap a good part of the third with events of The Singer. It’s been a challenge! I thought it might be interesting for you guys to get a peek at how that works, so I’m posting one of the scenes I’ve written that directly overlaps. That is, it’s the same conversation (which happened in Chapter Two of The Singer) but from Damien’s point-of-view. From a technical aspect, what happens when I have to rewrite a scene like this is that I copy and paste the whole scene from The Singer into the current manuscript. Then I have to go line by line and pay attention, not only to Damien’s internal dialogue […]
