Amid the Winter Snow

Anthology announcement and an Elemental Legacy teaser

Happy Saturday, everyone! I’m shooting off a quick blog post before my VERY BUSY WEEK this coming week. What’s on the agenda?

  • Family reunion
  • Grandmother’s memorial
  • THE SILENT book release
  • Getting TallBoy ready for Boy Scout camp
  • More writing on the new book if at all possible

I’m tired and the week hasn’t even started. blinkblink

SO, let’s check a few things off, shall we?

First off, I am very excited to announce that I’ll be joining a holiday anthology this year with three amazing authors (all of whose work I recommend) Thea Harrison, Grace Draven, and Jeffe Kennedy. The title of the anthology is…

Up for debate.

This is what happens when grammar nerds rumble, my friends. See, the original title was “Amid the Winter’s Snow” which is great, right? So we started with the cover, Grace and I collaborating, and I mocked up the copy for two covers, one with the original title, and one with the apostrophe s left off because it looked a little neater to my eye for the cover. Some of us liked the original. Some of us liked the update.

And… we still can’t agree which one to use. Grammatical arguments have been made for both covers. Reader votes have been cast. Last time I checked in, it still wasn’t decided.

So, it’s going to be one of these two when we figure things out!

The important thing is, this anthology is going to be amazing and I can’t wait to jump into it. The story I’m adding will be a novella set in the Irin Chronicles called, The Storm. It’ll be Maxim and Renata’s story, so I’ll start that after I finish Ben and Tenzin’s book.

If you’re signed up for my newsletter, you’ve already read this, but if you haven’t, I’m thrilled to announce that the title of the first full Elemental Legacy novel will be…

I don’t have a cover yet, but I’m over 53K words into the first draft, which is well over halfway. I’m having a BLAST writing this book. It’s been sitting in my head for years now, so I’m hoping it will go quickly and I can have it out before the end of the year.

Here’s a funny little teaser from Midnight Labyrinth:

She was in hell. A hell designed by the devil’s minion. This particular minion wore black glasses, black jeans, and bright purple hair spiked high on his head.

“I can’t work like this.” The minion pursed his lips. “Make her stop moving.”

Tenzin barely managed to contain the growl before Chloe slapped a hand over her mouth. “Tenzin, the faster you quit wiggling, the faster this will be over.”

She bared her fangs and let them scrape over Chloe’s hand. The human yelped and pulled her hand away.

“Don’t you dare,” Chloe hissed. “Stop being a brat.”

“He’s poked me with pins three times. This dress is too tight.”

“It is not, and Arthur poked you because you keep wiggling.”

“I’m wiggling because he keeps poking me with pins!”

The door swung open, and Tenzin turned toward it.

“Stop moving!” the devil’s minion yelled.

“Roast in hell!” Tenzin snapped. “Save me, Ben.”

Ben had been leafing through the mail, but he stopped, grabbed his phone, and held it up. She heard the tell-tale click of his camera before she could escape.

“I don’t know what’s going on, but I’m sending that to Gio,” he said.

“Uh huh.” He looked back at the mail. “Hey, Chloe. Who’s that?”

“Hey yourself,” Chloe said. “Ben, this is Arthur the miracle worker who’s making our dresses in three days. Arthur, this is Ben.”

“Arthur.” Ben walked over and offered a fist to Arthur. “Nice to have another guy around. I’m usually outnumbered.”

Arthur bumped Ben’s knuckles before he tugged Tenzin back to face him. “Stop. Moving. Or I will make you bleed.”

That’s right, only five days and it’ll be on your e-readers. I’m planning on having the paperback out the same day or very quickly after. As for audio, the narrator is working on The Staff and the Blade RIGHT NOW, so I’m hoping after that is finished we can start right in on The Silent.

And if you haven’t read the first chapter of The Silent yet…

Go here to read it now.

That’s all for now, folks! Have a great weekend.

  1. Your schedule makes me tired, but how fulfilling it must be! Your body of work is awesome and I am a big fan. As regards the cover of the anthology (great news, by the way), I think either one works, but what are you trying to communicate? Does the Winter own the snow or is it a description of the snow like a winter snow as opposed to a spring snow or a fall snow? Perhaps that’s the question you should all answer. Happy writing!

  2. You are a busy lady. Looking forward to reading your books and just so you don’t feel alone, I have 3 boys, all of whom went to boy scout camp every summer until they turned 18. They all got their Eagle Scout so encourage Tall boy to get his. It’s a lot of work but very fulfilling when they finish. Thanks for all your wonderful stories!
