Elizabeth Hunter's top reads for 2017

Book Recommendations: My Top Reads of 2017 so Far

Here are my top reads for 2017 so far!

Linx & Bogie by Elizabeth Hunter

I’m so excited that the first collection of this new series has made such a splash. It’s been on the bestseller list for fantasy short fiction for weeks now, and it’s a great introduction to this lighter mystery and paranormal series. Linx and Bogie are pure banter and fun.

Binti by Nnedi Okorafor

I do love great sci-fi, and this novella by Nnedi Okorafor is a gem. Beautifully imagined and very well written, this is a universe I’ll be happy to spend more time in. Binti is a compelling protagonist. Relatable. Sympathetic. Curious. I loved this story.

March by John Lewis and Andrew Aydin

This is a graphic novel adaptation of John Lewis’s autobiography written with Andrew Aydin. Timely and vibrant, it’s a story of the civil rights movement that will please history buffs and resonate with people of all ages.. My 11yo son was glued to it, and so was I.

Spellbinder by Thea Harrison

I loved Thea Harrison’s first book in her new Elder Races series, and I like this one even better! It’s a wonderful paranormal romance with deep nods to Arthurian mythology. Even better, for those new to the series, this is a stand-alone. So even if you missed Moonshadow (but pick it up when you can, cause it’s great) you can still enjoy Spellbinder.

Destiny’s Embrace by Beverly Jenkins

Every now and then, I get on a historical romance kick, and I can feel another one building with this historical by the amazing and talented Beverly Jenkins. It’s the first of three books in a series, and I love that it’s set in 19th century California! Not everyone wants a Regency duke as their hero, after all. Cocky ranch owners who get cut down to size by smart housekeepers are also pretty darn hot.
