Only when the darkness falls can you see the light of the stars.

For thousands of years, the scribes and singers of the Irin race have existed to protect humanity and guard the gifts of the Forgiven. They have lived in the shadows. They have kept their secrets.

But the Irin aren’t the only race with secrets.

Ava and Malachi have found each other, but wounds as deep as theirs don’t heal overnight. While the Irin world struggles to correct the power imbalance left by the Rending of the Irina, Malachi and Ava struggle to connect their past with their present.

The Fallen may scheme, but Ava has found her power and refuses to be an angel’s pawn. And while Malachi may have forgotten his history, the scribe’s relentless search for answers leads both him and his mate to the heart of the Irin power structure in Vienna, where knowledge is guarded more closely than gold and those with power will do anything to keep it.

Malachi and Ava have survived the darkness, but will they ever discover its secrets? A powerful cabal of the Fallen may hold the answers, but to surrender them, it wants the Irin race to finally face their enemies. Both those coming from the outside, and those raging within.

THE SECRET is the third book in the contemporary fantasy series, the Irin Chronicles, and the conclusion of Ava and Malachi’s journey.

Now, as I’ve mentioned before, I am not doing a preorder for this book, but you can add it on Goodreads at the link above and/or sign up for my New Release Newsletter, which is ONLY for new releases from me, and I’ll send you the sales links as soon as they’re live.

So, what do you think? Did do a good job? This cover took more back and forth than any others so far, and I’m really pleased with it. I hope you are, too.

Let me know what you think in the comments and you’ll be entered to win an ARC of THE SECRET! E-copy only, and the contest will run until Friday.

Have a great Wednesday!

  1. All three of these covers are so far above the bar that hopefully other authors will see them and be inspired! If I see one more naked washboard male chest I’m gonna puke… Kudos to the artist!

  2. I was having a crappy morning then I opened this post and my eyes were instantly glued to the Cover and it brought a smile to my face. My friends & I have a tiny book club and we’re patiently waiting for this book. Thank you so much for your lovely stories. This cover is simply beautiful.

  3. I love how both Ava and Malachi are on the cover together. They seem to be taking strength and comfort in each other. A perfect end to their story.

  4. It is a really beautiful cover, but where are Ava’s curls? Maybe they both nipped into the salon, hence Malachi’s product use! I love all three of the covers in this series, but the tattoos/spells are not at all how I picture them in my mind – I’d love to know if this is how you see them, Elizabeth.

    • It’s an interesting question, Carolyn. Because my cover artist uses stock photography instead of the time and expense of a cover shoot with professional models, the pictures are not exact to the book. HOWEVER, there are also choices made to depict the characters that make for a better book cover, even if they don’t necessarily mirror the book exactly.

For this cover, the most important thing I wanted to capture with the cover models was the embrace. To me, that was the priority. It needed to be sensual without feeling overly sexual. It needed to express the relationship and not just show skin. And I feel this pose captures exactly what I wanted. Hair wasn’t the priority.

As for the talesm, you are correct! They’re not like they are described in the book. However, I prefer this interpretation of the tattoos for cover work because actual talesm would look, frankly, kind of messy on a book cover, which needs to be a more focused image. Irin talesm are very intricate and layered, and I don’t think they would come across very well in the artwork for the cover.

      Great questions!

      • Thanks so much, Elizabeth, that’s really interesting. You’re absolutely right that the pose has the intensity and tenderness that fits so well with their story – I think that more than makes up for any hairstyling issues!! Really looking forward to the release date – going to try and savour this one and not race through it, but we shall have to see how that one turns out …

  5. This cover is hauntingly beautiful and romantic with a touch of the mysterious just like the series! I am anxious to read it!

  6. Ok, so I can be patient, but , ” A powerful cabal of the Fallen may hold the answers, but to surrender them, it wants the Irin race to finally face their enemies. Both those coming from the outside, and those raging within, ” along with Malachi in full talesm on the cover. Should be worth waiting for!

  7. I love the cover. It speaks to me of both power and tenderness. In my mind this lends itself to both their relationship as a couple, as well as, their approach to the challenges they face – together. Thank you for sharing!

  8. I really like this cover, it fits well with other two covers. I can’t wait to read the conclusion of Ava’s and Malachi’s story

  9. Love the cover! Everything I hoped for!!!! My hands are burning for this last one. Crossing my fingers for an ARC, but if not I will have this in my hand the day it is out!

  10. Beautiful cover, it’s a perfect image for the conclusion of Ava and Malachi’s story! I love it and can’t wait to see it sitting on my kindle 😀

  11. Personally, I would rather see his back than hers (a well defined man’s back is one of my weaknesses) but I totally understand why I am looking at her and not really him.

  12. I really like the quick distinct visual link made with the other Irin Chronicle Book covers created by the scroll like writing. I especially love the vulnerability and tenderness created by the space within the circle of their embrace. It evokes a bittersweet tweak to my readers ever hopeful HEA heart.

    Love it!

  13. Loved the blurb. It makes me really anxious to read the book. I’ll have to go back and re-read the first two books to prepare for the next book’s release. I really hope I win the ARC! Fingers crossed! Looking forward to venturing back into this world again.

  14. Really good cover, and I know you addressed some of the issues I am expressing, but honestly, I thought Malachi would be a little ummm more muscular? and maybe a little darker complexion? not to mention having some of his scrollwork missing? Yes, the embrace does cover a lot of the emotional territory. I love this series and am a huge fan so I am as excited as everyone else to see the conclusion.

  15. My heart stopped when I saw the cover and announcement the new book is coming out. Love Love LOVE – Malachi & Ava! Thank you!!

  16. Have loved ALL of your work and those that work with you.. Fantastic stories with equally great artwork. I’m keeping your latest releases for my holidays. Have not read book two yet, but I can hardly wait!! And now I have book 3 to add to my collection for holidays.

  17. I LOVE IT! Cannot wait. I’m going to have to pace myself and re-read the other two before I sink into this one when it’s released. I love the words on skin.

  18. Awesome cover! I read The Scribe and The Singer in one sitting, on their release dates… Needless to say, I am so ready to find out how the story will end!

  19. I *love* Ava and Mal, and am so, so excited about this book … the cover is gorgeous, Ms. Hunter, and I agree with the majority vote that it just FITS. The embrace, the protectiveness, the tenderness … and the scrollwork writing evokes the talesm without being overwhelming. LOVE IT!

  20. Wonderful work! I am ashamed to say, I most always judge a book by its cover. And your books never disappoint me! I don’t know whether to be excited for the release of THE SECRET; or upset that you are not turning it in to a pentalogy!

  21. Love the cover almost as much as I love the series!! I have already re-read the first two countless times. I can’t get enough!

  22. Beautiful cover!! I can’t wait to read it. I loved the Elemental series, but I think this might be my favorite. Absolutely beautiful writing and world building. Thank you for sharing your gift!

  23. The cover is almost as beautiful as the books! I cannot wait for the story, though I’m sad that it’s ending because this is one of my favorite series.
    Come on March!!!

  24. Malachi’s hair looks as though he-or she-been running fingers through it. Their embrace, skin highlighting their tats, reflects the tightness of their bond and illuminates their power as a couple.
I think the cover is perfect. And I would LOVE an ARC ☺

  25. I love it! It’s so cool how this cover pulls the cover art from the first two books together in such a beautiful way. I’m so excited for this book!

  26. The cover is lovely Elizabeth, congratulations to the artist for capturing the essence of the characters and their settings so very well. Only one month to wait….I keep reminding myself that patience is a virtue.

  27. I am so excited about this book! Love the look of the cover but it’s hard to tell if it’s fitting until I read the book. I also love the look of Ava’s talesem. Judging by Malachi’s arms, it looks like he found his as well ?

  28. The cover is beautiful! I thought I remembered Ava as having curly (or rather describing as ‘curling’) hair?

  29. Elizabeth,

I’d love to be an ARC READER. I’ve read every book you’ve ever published. My turnaround time is 2 days, I’m a GREAT reviewer for several Authors. PLEASE let me be one of yours!!!!

    Thanks, Kimberly
