Things I’m excited about this summer ….

Walking—I love walking. Thoreau famously said, “Me thinks the moment my legs begin to move, my thoughts begin to flow.” I have begun walking more regularly and have found my thighs and thoughts becoming leaner. It is hard to find the time some days, but inevitably, my body feel refreshed, my thoughts become clearer, and my child gets tired out. (Score!)

If you’re spending a lot of time in front of the computer lately (as I do) I highly recommend a good walk to clear your lungs and your mind.

Music—Ah! There is so much good music out there right now! Those of you who have read my work know how much I love music and how eclectic my tastes are. I’ve recently hopped on the Florence + the Machine train after getting the opportunity to see them live in Los Angeles. Amazing! If you haven’t checked them out yet, do it! Powerful vocals, excellent song-writing, and a really unique sound.

Reading—I’m finding new books and rediscovering old favorites. The most excellent editor, A. Victoria Mixen, recommended the book, Mystery and Manners by Flannery O’Connor for all writers, and I’m enjoying digging into the amazing Miss O’Connor’s thoughts on writing, religion, and storytelling in general. I can already recommend this collection of essays for any aspiring writer.

I’m also enjoying the Chicagoland Vampires Series by Chloe Neill! Fun summer reads that feature a fresh protagonist and a great sense of humor. I recommend them to fans of paranormal mystery and romance looking for a new series this summer.

Also, if any of you are on Good Reads or Facebook, I’ve started pages on both and I’d love to have you “friend” me. (And yes, I’m hopelessly uncool about these things, so be kind about my ignorance.) Luckily, I’m still on twitter, though I’ve officially changed my twitter name to @e__hunter (that’s two understrikes, folks!) but I don’t think it changes anything about my followers or who I follow, so you can still get me there.

Writing—I finished my first manuscript for my contemporary romance novel, Tracing Shadows, and I’m kind of proud of that! It still has a long way to go before it is ready for publication, but it finally feels like I’ve written a “real book” and that means a lot.

I’m also nearing the end of the first draft for my Elemental Mystery, A Hidden Fire. There are four books plotted for this series and I’m really excited to share them. Keep looking for teasers this fall; I’m hoping to publish by the end of the year.

  1. I checked out the 1st book in the CV Series by Chloe Neill. I was so delighted and extremely frustrated I didn’t check out the rest from the library. Thanks for the tip!!!
